Antioch has received a plethora of bad press lately because of all the coincidental ’sex cases’ that have recently emerged. Even in the midst of all the turmoil it’s comforting to know that in many of these cases the Antioch authorities have been quick to apprehend suspects.

Jason Phillip Goettsch, of Antioch pleaded nolo contendere to charges of oral copulation and administering drugs with intent to perform sexual acts (GHB). The alleged incident occurred 2/21/2008 at Goettsch’s chiropractor office and local 19th Hole Casino & Lounge. Goettsch was reported saying that the sexual encounter was consensual, but pleaded out the charge to avoid a hefty 18 year prison sentence.

Goettsch will likely be granted probation, but it’s still uncertain if he will actually see any significant jail time. Goettsch turned himself into Martinez authorities after a County wide manhunt was ordered. Meredith May, Chronicle Staff Writer covered the initial police issuance of the $225,000 felony arrest warrant.

CBS5 reported that Goettsch initially raised suspicions when he showed a cell phone multimedia recording to fellow customers at the 19th hole after the alleged rape incident. GHB has been used in a medical setting as a general anesthetic, to treat conditions such as insomnia, clinical depression, narcolepsy, and alcoholism, and to improve athletic performance.

The drug received recreational recognition largely because of the ‘club and raver use’ that developed around the 1970s. The drug became less popular in the 1990s as other more readily administered drugs, like ecstasy became popular.

It’s said the drug is similar to the effects of alcohol, only intensified hundreds of times over. Regulation of the drug is difficult considering that many online international vendors sell the drug over the internet. The ease at which this drug is made available to the public is a huge concern to County officials. Contra Costa authorities recently busted a County wide drug ring. The Contra Costa drug bust story can be found here.

Still, with the new communication channels that the internet now offers regulating international drug smuggling is virtually impossible.
