A Louisville chiropractor has admitted that he defrauded a local insurance company.

Dr. Mark A. Schrader, 46, pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to one count of health care fraud. He is to be sentenced in April by U.S. District Court Judge John R. Adams in Akron.

Federal prosecutors said Schrader, who ran Family Chiropractic, billed AultCare for patients who didn’t show signs or symptoms warranting treatment, according to court papers.

The insurance company paid more than $28,000 in fraudulent claims for seven patients from 2000 to 2003, according to court papers.

The case was prompted by an investigation by the Ohio Department of Insurance, according to federal prosecutors.
