A St. Clair County chiropractor pleaded guilty to federal charges Wednesday and admitted falsely billing for $2 million worth of care, the U.S. Attorney's office said Wednesday.

John M. Hardimon, 40, of Shiloh, ran Hardimon Chiropractic Center, first out of his home in Belleville, and later in offices in Belleville and Shiloh.

In court documents made public Wednesday, Hardimon admits keeping almost no records for patients, and creating fake records when insurance companies asked for documentation. In all, Hardimon charged 14 companies or health insurance funds just over $2 million in claims without proper documentation since 2006, his plea says.

He will have to pay that money back, and as part of that plea, Hardimon agreed to forfeit $714,641 in cash and two homes, two minivans and a BMW that he paid for in cash, prosecutors said.
