November 11, 2010 — Genius Solutions Inc. and Advanced Compliance Technologies are pleased to join forces in presenting the National Academy of Chiropractic Coders (NACC) to the chiropractic community.

The NACC is the first national association specifically serving the chiropractic profession in education, training, and certification for insurance billers, office managers, and chiropractors who want to become certified chiropractic coders (CCC). The NACC is by chiropractors, for chiropractors.

Billing, coding, and chiropractic documentation can be confusing, frustrating, and frightening if someone has not been taught the correct way to do it. The NACC exists to cut through the coding myths and misconceptions that exist out there today, while giving offices the step-by-step help needed to enjoy their practices and get paid properly for what they do.

Documentation problems are not just endemic to the chiropractic discipline. But, chiropractors have been some of those hit hardest as Medicare and other third-party insurers have begun to check very carefully and audit offices based on their documentation.

According to OIG statistics (from the 2006 OIG study, released as the 2009 OIG report) chiropractors have extremely high rates of improper coding:

• Medicare inappropriately paid $178 million for chiropractic claims in 2006.

• 83 percent of chiropractic claims failed to meet one or more of the documentation requirements.

• Appropriate use of the AT modifier could not be definitively determined through medical review for 9 percent of sampled claims, representing $39 million.
