A 44-year-old Redding chiropractor was ordered Wednesday to stand trial in the alleged molestation of a 10-year-old girl last year.

During a lengthy preliminary hearing that saw criminal defense attorney Eric Berg lose a motion to dismiss the case and a bid to put the young girl on the witness stand, Edward Scott Roberts was bound over for trial by Superior Court Judge Wilson Curle.

Roberts, who is charged with one felony count of continuous sexual assault on a minor, is due to return to Shasta County Superior Court on Feb. 8 for arraignment and the possible setting of a trial date.

Roberts, who is free on $50,000 bail, was arrested Dec. 24 at his Hartnell Avenue business after he had spoken with Redding police Investigator Matt Stoker the previous day.

Although Berg attacked Stoker's account of that interview and claimed that no molestations ever occurred, Stoker maintained during Wednesday's hearing that Roberts told him that an "overwhelming feeling" would come over him that he could not control right before the alleged molestations.
