Insurance costs for chiropractors won't drop

Raleigh — State lawmakers won't move to make it cheaper for most North Carolinians to see a chiropractor.

Chiropractors want the state to ban insurance companies from charging higher co-pays to patients of chiropractors than those who go to general practioners.

But the state chiropractors association has asked Rep. Cullie Tarleton to pull his proposed legislation, Tarleton said. By missing a deadline of today to advance, it is unlikely to become law this year.

Tarleton, D-Watauga, said the group was unhappy with the bill that emerged last week from the House Insurance Committee.

The committee called for insurers to charge no more for visits to chiropractors, physical therapists and occupational therapists than state employees and retirees pay under state insurance.
